Formed in 1974, CFM International is an equally owned subsidiary of Snecma and General Electric who split all design, development, production, testing, marketing and support activities.
The CFM name comes from the two companies' commercial engine designations, GE's CF6 and Snecma's M56.

CFM56/F108

The CFM56 is a family of turbofan engines spanning a thrust range of 18,500 to 34,000 lb (82 to 151 kN). In the last 20 years, nearly 15,000 engines have been sold with over 200 million hours in flight. Another 2 million flight hours is being added every month.
The U.S. Military uses the designation F108 for its CFM56s.
