Dynamic (Yeoman Light Aircraft
Co)
The Dynamic is an advanced
light-weight aeroplane with comfortable dual side-by-side seating.
Conceived in 1996, the Dynamic has been in serial production since
2000, and by 2005 over 100 were flying in more than 19 countries
around the world, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, the
USA, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand.
The use of advanced construction techniques and state-of-the-art
materials, including sandwich shells and carbon fibre composites,
means the Dynamic's weight has been kept very low, with the baseline
UK variant weighing in at an astonishing 254kg.
The aeroplane is powered by the ubiquitous Rotax 912 engine,
representing the very best of Austro-Canadian engineering. The basic
model of the aeroplane is equipped with a Rotax 912 UL engine, with
a power output of 80hp (60kW), whilst the more sporty 912 ULS, rated
at 100hp (80kW), is available as an option. Either way, the engine
has two carburettors, electric starter, double ignition, stainless
exhaust, and a silencer. A variety of propeller options are
available, including electrically controlled variable pitch.
The fuselage of the Dynamic consists of composite sandwich shells,
where carbon fibre plays the key role. This allows a low weight
coupled with high strength and rigidity. The fuselage also includes
a 2.45m (8ft) wide centro-plane, including integral fuel tanks with
a total volume of 75l (16.5 imp gal). The horizontal fin has the
same span as the centro-plane, an elegant design feature which
facilitates containerised transport of a dismantled aeroplane.
Control is effected via a classical control column (i.e. 'joystick',
not control yoke), fitted to both sides, and rudder pedals. In order
to provide maximum control of the aircraft configuration in the
unlikely event of an electrical failure, the control of flaps and
trim is mechanical, with the controls between the seats of the
pilots.
The frame of the canopy is made of carbon composite, which ensures
high strength and rigidity. Sector-leading levels of in-flight
comfort are ensured in a true ergonomically designed cockpit. The
internal width of the cockpit is 115 cm (3'9"), which is the widest
in the category. An excellent view from the cockpit is ensured by
the use of organic glass made by Swiss fibreglass producer Mecaplex.
The instrument panel is fitted with basic engine and flight
instruments as standard, however a very wide range of options is
available, from almost any conceivable additional instrumentation,
right up to a glass cockpit with full colour primary flight display
(PFD).
Perhaps the most striking feature of all about the Dynamic, and one
which has won it critical acclaim the world over, is the quality of
build and surface finish. Every part is manufactured with the
highest conceivable attention to detail, whilst the finish of the
fuselage and wings sets a new standard in composite aircraft
production. It is quite literally possible for a gentleman to shave
using the wing as a mirror. The Dynamic really shows its shared
heritage with glider design and production, which plays no small
part in achieving its dazzling performance figures.
The aircraft can be
supplied with a fixed tri-cycle or retractable undercarriage
and is also available as a kit.
