The
1990s continue to advance air travel. More than one billion passengers a
year are transported via air, all with even greater safety and efficiency
that before. Many of the advances can be attributed directly lessons
learned from previous crashes. The increase in traffic has begun to
burden the ATC structure however. More needs to be invested in ATC to
maintain the safety level. Also at the forefront this decade is the
increased complexity of modern airliners. Some feel the aircraft have
become too much computer and too little human. Accidents like American
965 and Lauda 004 illustrate this.
